Alderman Kevin S. Matichek, 33, who is up for re-election in April, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of repeated sexual assault of a child, a felony. His bail was set at $75,000 and he is expected back in court Feb. 18 for a preliminary hearing.
While investigating an anonymous tip received last week, Sheboygan police interviewed a 15-year-old boy who told detectives that he developed a friendship with Matichek in June that eventually turned to a sexual relationship.
The teen told police he didn't consider himself a victim because he identified as being gay and Matichek "didn't jump out at me from an alley," according to the criminal complaint. In addition to giving gifts to the teen, Matichek often took him out to eat and to movies, the complaint says.
Matichek had sex with the boy a half dozen times at his home and at least twice in Matichek's car, including once when it was parked behind the shipwreck at the lakefront in the Deland Park area, according to the criminal complaint.
