A 13-year-old boy recording a fight with his cell phone was shot to death in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side late Sunday night, according to police.
The boy's stepfather, Ralph Otero, identified him as Anthony Diaz. He was pronounced dead about 11:30 p.m., according to authorities.
Otero said the boy's attacker shot him a few more times after he had fallen to the ground.
The boy was with a group that included his sisters in the 6000 block of West Grand Avenue about 10:35 p.m. when someone shot him, police said.
The boy was outside near his home with his sisters, who had been in an argument with other girls on Facebook. It's not clear what started the argument.
The boy was recording the fight on his phone when the shooting happened, police said, though it's not clear what the video may show. Police recovered the cell phone at the scene
